Cisco IP Routing (300-101) is an advanced course on the routing protocols that run enterprise networks. It follows the Cisco 300-101 ROUTE exam from the CCNP Routing and Switching track and suits network engineers who already know CCNA level routing. You get 17 hours 40 minutes of self-paced training across 48 video lessons.

What you will learn

  • Review routing basics, route selection and IP subnetting
  • Configure EIGRP, including stub routing, summarisation and load balancing
  • Secure EIGRP routes with authentication
  • Plan and configure IPv6 addressing and EIGRP for IPv6
  • Set up RIPng for IPv6 networks
  • Configure OSPF and build the link state database
  • Use OSPF path selection, summarisation, stub areas and authentication
  • Configure OSPFv3 and basic route redistribution
  • Configure BGP, BGP path selection and BGP authentication
  • Troubleshoot and tune routing across a network
  • Set up basic EIGRP and OSPF configurations from scratch

Course outline: Cisco 300-101

  1. Plan and design: a review of routing basics, route selection, switching versus routing, IP subnetting and IP address classes.
  2. EIGRP: topology tables, stub routing, summarisation, load balancing, named configuration and authentication.
  3. IPv6: IPv6 addressing, basic setup and EIGRP for IPv6.
  4. OSPF: the link state database, path selection, summarisation, stub areas, authentication, OSPFv3 and redistribution.
  5. BGP: BGP basics, path selection, authentication and configuration.
  6. Course review: a hands-on recap of EIGRP, OSPF, IPv6 and BGP, with basic configurations of each.

Who this course is for

  • Network engineers and administrators who manage routed networks
  • IT professionals working towards a CCNP level skill set
  • CCNA holders who want deeper routing knowledge
  • People moving into network engineering roles
  • Network administrators who manage networks across several sites
  • Students and aspiring network engineers

Before you start

This is an advanced course. You should already understand CCNA level routing, IP addressing and subnetting. Time spent with Cisco routers, real or virtual, will help you follow the configuration lessons. Make sure you can subnet quickly, because the course starts with a review and then moves fast. Build a small lab and repeat each configuration demo yourself. Hands-on practice is the best way to remember how each protocol behaves.

About the 300-101 exam

The 300-101 ROUTE exam was issued by Cisco as part of the CCNP Routing and Switching certification. It tested your ability to plan, set up and fix advanced IP routing with EIGRP, OSPF, BGP and IPv6. Cisco retired this exam in February 2020 when it launched its new certification program. Today, advanced enterprise routing is covered by the CCNP Enterprise track, including the 300-410 ENARSI exam. EIGRP, OSPF and BGP are still used in enterprise networks around the world, so the skills in this course stay useful.
