Cisco Routing and Switching 300-115 is an online course for network engineers who build and run enterprise switched networks on Cisco equipment. It follows the Cisco 300-115 SWITCH exam, which was part of the CCNP Routing and Switching certification. The course lasts 19 hours 30 minutes over 60 videos, with 60 test questions.
The course is split into seven modules. You start with network planning and design ideas, then configure switches, IP services and Spanning Tree. Later modules cover routing between VLANs and gateway redundancy, and a final review module replays the key setups as demos so you can check your understanding.
What you will learn
- Plan complex networks using the Cisco enterprise architecture
- Configure VLANs, trunks and VTP
- Set up EtherChannel and load balancing
- Protect switches with port security and root guard
- Configure DHCP, DHCPv6 and NTP
- Monitor the network with IP SLA
- Tune Spanning Tree, and deploy RSTP and MST
- Route between VLANs, and set up HSRP, VRRP and GLBP for gateway backup
- Review topology, the OSI model and service level agreements when you plan a network
Course outline
- Plan and design: complex networks, enterprise architecture, topology, OSI, NTP and security
- Switch configuration: VLANs, trunking, VTP, EtherChannel, port security, root guard and MST
- IP configuration: DHCP, DHCPv6, IPv6, NTP and IP SLA monitoring
- STP and RSTP: improving Spanning Tree and deploying RSTP and MST
- Routing: inter-VLAN routing with a router or multilayer switch
- HSRP, VRRP and GLBP: gateway redundancy and load balancing, including HSRP for IPv6
- Course review: demos that recap the key setups
Who this course is for
- Network engineers and administrators who manage Cisco switches
- IT staff who want to specialise in network management
- Learners working towards Cisco professional level skills
- Students who want to deepen their switching knowledge
- Network consultants who design campus networks
Before you start
No set prerequisites are listed, but this is a professional level course. You should already know Cisco IOS basics, IP addressing and how VLANs work at CCNA level. Cisco CCNA 200-301 is a good place to start if you are newer to networking. Working through the configurations on real or virtual Cisco equipment will help the commands stick.
About the 300-115 exam
The 300-115 SWITCH exam checked your ability to plan, configure and verify complex enterprise switching, including VLANs, Spanning Tree, EtherChannel, inter-VLAN routing and gateway redundancy. Cisco issued it as one of the exams for CCNP Routing and Switching, alongside 300-101 ROUTE and 300-135 TSHOOT.
Cisco retired 300-115 on 23 February 2020 when it moved to the CCNP Enterprise track. The switching skills taught here are still core to campus networks.
