Before you start
You should know your way around Windows and understand basic networking. Some experience supporting devices for users will help you follow the demos. A lab with a Windows 10 virtual machine and a trial Microsoft 365 or Azure tenant lets you repeat them. The course leans on scenarios, so focus on why you pick one option over another, not just the steps. The lessons use Windows 10. Intune and Autopilot also manage newer Windows versions, so the core ideas carry over.
About the MD-101 exam
Exam MD-101 was one of two exams for the Microsoft 365 Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate certification, issued by Microsoft. It tested your ability to deploy, manage, protect and monitor Windows devices and apps in a business. Microsoft has since replaced MD-100 and MD-101 with a single exam, MD-102 (Endpoint Administrator). The skills in this course, such as Intune, Autopilot and compliance policies, also appear in the newer MD-102 exam. If you want the current certification, take this course as a base, then follow it with our MD-102 course. Microsoft keeps the skills outline for each exam on Microsoft Learn, so check it as you plan your study.
